This season sees Katharina making her debut at Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe as Ännchen in the new production of C.M.v. Webers “Der Freischütz” as well as performing her very first Pamina (The magic flute) at Staatstheater Darmstadt.
Last season she made her debut at Theater an der Wien as Papagena in the new production of “The magic flute” under the batton of René Jacobs.
Before joining the ensemble in Freiburg, she was a member of the Frankfurt Opera Studio Program, where she made her Frankfurt debut in 2013/14 as Eurydike in Telemann`s “Orpheus”. During her time in the studio, she made highly acclaimed appearences as Susanna (Mozart “Le Nozze di Figaro”), Frasquita in Barrie Kosky`s new “Carmen” production, The Forest Bird (Wagner “Siegfried”), First Woodnymphe (Dvorak “Rusalka”), Berta (Weber “Euryanthe”) as well as Sandman (Humperdinck “Hänsel und Gretel”) amongst others.
A versatile artist, Katharina Ruckgaber is also in demand as a concert and recital singer. Recent concert highlights include recitals at Wigmore Hall, Konzerthaus Wien and the Oxford Lieder Festival as well as her debut in Russia at the Tchaikovsky Hall Mocow as Clizia in the concertant performance of Händel`s “Teseo”.
This past summer, a CD of songs by austro-hungarian composer Imre Széchényi was released by MDG, with Helmut Deutsch on the piano.
Notably, in 2015 Katharina Ruckgaber gave her Konzerthaus Berlin debut as Fennimore in Kurt Weill`s “Der Silbersee” under the baton of Iván Fischer and sang Rosina in Mozart`s “Finta Semplice” at the 40th Cantiere Festival Montepulciano (founded by Hans Werner Henze).
The young soprano made her operatic debut in 2011 as Despina in Mozart´s “Così fan tutte” with Bruno Weil conducting at Schloßfestspiele Weikersheim and reprised this role soon after for the Festival Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. While still a student at Bayerische Theaterakademie August Everding, she sang Serpetta in Mozart´s “Finta Giardiniera” at the Prinzregententheater München with the Kammerorchester München. She also performed the role at the Bamberg Biennale 2012 with the Bamberger Symphoniker, under Ainars Rubikis.
In 2014 she sang the female lead role “Kokua” in the world premiere of W. Hiller´s “Der Flaschengeist” at the Gärtnerplatztheater München.
In 2013, Katharina Ruckgaber sang Antoinette in Oscar Strasnoy´s contemporary opera “Le Bal” with the Münchner Rundfunkorchester, Ulf Schirmer conducting and Jenny in Weill`s “Down in the Valley” for the Kurt Weill Fest Dessau under Antony Hermus.
Other roles performed on stage this year included Anna Reich (Nicolai “The Merry Wives of Windsor”), Governess (Britten “The Turn of the Screw”) and Servilia (Mozart “La Clemenza di Tito”).
She is the recipient of scholarships from the Deutscher Bühnenverein, the Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now Foundation, and is the winner of the Großer Förderpreis of the Jütting-Stiftung Stendal as well as the Anneliese-Rothenberger-competition 2017 and the Michael Schade´s Stella-Maris-Competition.
Katharina Ruckgaber recently graduated with the Christl und Klaus Haack Preis from the “Hochschule für Musik und Theater München”, where she studied with Prof. Andreas Schmidt and Lied with Helmut Deutsch.
She has also participated in masterclasses with Edith Mathis, Angelika Kirchschlager, Margreet Honig, Edith Wiens and Lillian Watson.
